RWA Day 3
(posted 05 Aug 2008)
Friday was my busiest day at the conference. I had meetings with both of my editors as well as the big Harlequin party. I got up early for breakfast with my roommate Eve Gaddy. And then had coffee with Mary Louise Wells of Mimi’s Dish fame. Then it was time to meet with Kate Duffy.
We had a nice meeting sitting outside on a park bench and eating (no lie!) the most delicious cream puffs I’ve ever had. They were from a place called Beard Papa’s. We talked a bit about the book business and had a chance to catch up on our lives.
Next it was off to lunch with my good friend Susan Crosby. She wrote some of my favorite Silhouette Desire books and now writes for Silhouette Special Edition.
I’m thinking as you read this you’ll be imagining me as some kind of social butterfly. And to be honest that’s what the RWA conference is for me. A chance to talk face-to-face with all the writers I never see during the year.
Nancy Robards Thompson and I took a walk to find the Four Seasons hotel and then just walked around Union Square catching up. We also made time for another stop at Beard Papa’s. This time I had a chocolate covered cream puff–yummy!
I got back to the hotel still wearing my flip flops instead of the cute sandals I’d planned on wearing for my meeting with my editor Natashya Wilson. But Tashya didn’t seem to mind. We walked over to the nearby Yearba Buena Park and sat in front of a fountain and chatted until 4 when the View on the 39th floor opened. Then we went upstairs and sat at a table with a fabulous view of the Bay. We had passion fruit mojitos which are refreshing and delicious!
I got a chance to say hi to Karen K from Grand Central Press. She used to be an editor for Desire and we had worked together years ago on a project. Then I met Mel Odom. He’s another of Tashya’s authors. I went to get ready for dinner and then met back up with them and Rita award-winning author Stephanie Feagan.
We had a lot of fun at dinner. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it was Italian and very good. I had a lot of fresh tomatoes in every dish I got.
We all walked back to our hotel and then hit the Harlequin party. One of the cool things about the Harlequin party is that they take a few minutes early in the evening to acknowledge milestones in writing for their authors. Two of my writing friends Susan Crosby and Crystal Green were awarded 25 book pins. Then Maureen Child another Desire author was awarded one for 50 books. These are books written only for Harlequin.
After the awards it was time for the deejay to start cranking tunes and we all danced the night away. The dance floor was jam packed and I danced the night away. It was so much fun. There was a great feminine energy in the room.
It was midnight way too soon and we were back at the conference hotel. I spent an hour talking to my Orlando girls before heading to bed. My roommates were fast asleep but I did get to chat with them briefly in the morning before I headed home.
I had a great time in SF but it was so nice to be back home with my family. And now I’m back at work on another one of my cursed Italian car makers.
Happy Reading!!!

RWA Day 2
(posted 04 Aug 2008)
Day 2 at the RWA conference gave me a chance to see some of the city as well as meet with other author friends.
I started my day with breakfast with Cindy Kirk and Nancy Robards Thompson. Then we headed out to the Legion of Honor Museum to see a special exhibit of the women Impressionists. Outside of the museum was the Rodin statue of The Thinker and we couldn’t resist doing a little thinking of our own!

There was a Chihuly sculpture in the garden as well. Readers, you may remember that Chihuly glass played a huge part in The Six-Month Mistress. I really enjoyed seeing both examples of his work at this museum. There was an installation at another SF museum but I wasn’t able to find the time to see it.
We got back in time for a meeting with my agent, Pamela Hardy. Pamela and I left the hotel and found a nice bar with a lot of character to have a glass of wine and catch up.
Then it was time for the Kensington Cocktail party. I had meet Audrey LeFehr for the first time and it was nice to chat with her.
Here I am at dinner at the restaurant that parts of The Maltese Falcon were filmed.
Then I hit the eHarlequin pajama party and had a chance to visit with Dream one of my favorite people and the host for some of the boards on eHarlequin.
One more day of RWA fun to come tomorrow!
Happy Reading,
Kathy

Coming Home
(posted 03 Aug 2008)
The best part about going away on a trip is coming back home to those you love. My sweetie made my homecoming very nice. For the first time in a really long time I felt like I was really missed and that someone was glad I was back home to do something other than cook for them.
Here is a picture of the flowers he had waiting for me.
I can’t say anything more than it is so good to be back home with the man I love.

RWA 2008
(posted 03 Aug 2008)
I am back from the annual fun that is the RWA conference. I had a chance to visit with my BFFs in the romance writing world, talk to my editors (the lovely Natashya Wilson from Harlequin books and the fabulous Kate Duffy from Kensington Books), catch up with my agent (Pamela Hardy from the Knight Agency) and meet some really fascinating new writers (Mel Odom aka Meredith Fletcher!).
I arrived on Wednesday and immediately the fun started. Mimi picked us up at the airport and took us on a driving tour of the city. You’d think she was a native the way she knew her way around San Francisco’s streets (cue the music from that old TV show!) but she had only been in the city for a little less than a week. We checked into the hotel and I headed upstairs to my room only to find some regency era costumed people already occupying the space. I thought I’d stepped into some sort of Twilight Zone until they laughingly explained that Julia Justiss had offered to let them use our room as a dressing room for the Beau Monde’s annual workshop.
I had lunch with my good friend and Silhouette Special Edition author Nancy Robards Thompson, former Golden Heart finalists Debbie Pfieffer and Teresa Elliot Brown.
We ended the evening with the annual book signing to raise money for literacy. I visited with my good friend and Harlequin SuperRomance author Eve Gaddy. And then we had dinner at The Jazz Bistro. They had yummy French cuisine and live jazz.

Afterward I hit a few parties…well I crashed the Super Authors party and had a chance to chat with Holly Jacobs. Then it was on to a party with my online writer community. We are an active group who chat online every day so it was nice to see everyone face-to-face and get a hug and just chat about life and writing.
All in all the first day of RWA was a lot of fun. I’ll post more tomorrow on the rest of my trip.
Happy Reading!

New Cover!!
(posted 11 Jul 2008)
Here’s a sneak peak at the cover for BARE NERVE. The last in my stories about Liberty Investigations. I think it looks hot.
Let me know what you think.

Chatty Kathy is a place for me to share some my thoughts on whatever topic I'm interested in. Lots of reviews of books I've read, some commentary on music that I like and some fun stuff that is related to whatever book I'm
